AN AMAZING ANIMAL




No other animal looks like the elephant, with its long trunk, large tusks and huge ears.
Asian elephants and African forest elephants live mainly in woods, while African savanna elephants live on grasslands. Al are under threat, shot for their ivory tusks or because they destory farm crops. Some Asian elephants are tame and carry logs for people or let them ride on their backs.


ASIAN ELEPHANT

The asian elephant is smaller than the African types and has smallers ears. An elephant´s trunk is its nose and top lip joined together. It uses it to grasp food, suck yp water to squirt in its mouth, sniff the air and strope babies and friends in the herd.


                                                   AFRICAN ELEPHANT 

Most African savanna elephants have tusks. Tusk are huge incisor teeth, made of ivory. They are used to dig for food, push down trees for their leveas, fruits and bark, for efence against enemies and to fight ival males atr breeding time.


SMALL COUSINS
The closest relations to elephants are the hyraxes of Africa and the Middle East. Rock hyraxes are found in dry, rocky places. Tree hyraxes are found in branches. They all live in groups and eat plants.
